Brown Looking for Red
Hello loviesssss,
Hope we all had an amazing weekend? Mine was packed, between conducting work interview sessions the whole of saturday & visiting my sisters on sunday (I haven't seen them in a bit) it was quite eventful.
As i lay in bed last night thinking of what to blog about today, (while praying i live up to my new blog phase of featuring myself & against bloggers brain block...hehehe) my mind sort of drifted to my make-up purse. I decided to get up and de-clutter, getting rid of old lip pencils etc and i saw one of my best make-up buys (after the sleek eye shadow palette) MAC Ruby Woo. Wow i remember how long it took me to find a red lipstick shade for my skin tone - like forever. Ruby Woo works like magic, suits almost every skin tone.
Now there are several schools of thoughts regarding the red lipstick/gloss for the colored girl. Some people even believe its a NO NO or it makes you look trashy. Well as always i'll say find what shade works for you and rock it with confidence.
The french girls are effortlessly chic and have mastered the art of making a statement with their red lips.
For days when you don't feel like dressing up, just slip into something simple & chic, apply A LITTLE Red Lipstick and you’re good to go! I just love how the color red makes everything else pop & more lively.
I also saw recently that MAC even collaborated with Rihanna and came up with a shade called RiRi MAC collection. There's got to be something about the red lipstick :-)
Today i'll just give you simple basic tips on wearing the red lipstick/gloss on brown skin cos i have realized that what works for me might not work for you.
1. Red lipstick looks best when all other makeup is minimal: When wearing a red lip don’t take attention away from you lip by doing to much elsewere on you face.
2. Look for brands of that offer long lasting color: If your going to do red you want it to pop all day. The less glossy the product, less of a chance it will fade during the day. However, if you want to keep those lips apple red throughout the day try adding a little powder foundation to your lips before applying. Also remember to blot your lips. Blotting removes oils from your lips that if not removed would fade out color.
3. Don't be afraid to mix two shades: If you are lucky, you might find a shade that works for you (Like the Ruby Woo by MAC). Mix pinkish reds, orange reds, with more saturated reds that look more rich and derive from blues, violets, and plums. A good rule of thumb is to seek out reds in cosmetic brands that cater to women of color. And if you are a black woman with yellow undertones in your skin a bright red would work perfectly.
4. Wearing a red lip is a very custom makeup choice: What works for your bestie, may not work for you. Be sure to try it on before you buy. Unless it becomes your signature look, red lipstick should not be an everyday wear as some brands can begin to stain your lips.
5. Remember to exfoliate your lips: Do this regularly with a soft baby toothbrush and then apply a lip balm to lock the moisture in. chapped lips aren't cute
Thanks for always reading.
xoxo.
